October 20 and 21, 2001 - Washington Knifemakers Hammer-In

After two days of hammering we all still had smiles on our faces!

Big thanks to Bill Cotrell and his wife (who kept us well fed) for hosting this two day event.

Tom working a powder metal billet in the hydraulic press

the cut-open powder metal billet

Our host, pounding out on the air hammer

After forging the billet is cut, stacked and re-forged

Bill's billet started off as chain links

Bill grinding the "scale" off his billet

Nearly finished piece of chain Damascus

Daniel at the forge

Even knifemaker wanna-be's like Chuck and I got involved.

Tom giving Roger Dole some pointers

Stock removal guys like Roger and Will Stegner even did some chain and cable Damascus

Once Roger got to the flat grinder, he was right at home

Nick Wheeler on the flat grinder

Tom Ferry giving some hollow grinding pointers

Lonnie Hansen forging a tomahawk with a sledge hammer

I don't think Alden will be so quick to volunteer next time Lonnie asks for a helper!

My f#$%ed-up piece of cable Damascus - nice pattern too bad I blew the weld. :(
